Each one also has a micro-engraved letter on the reverse that serves as a security element.

2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake. The concept of the Wood Snake specifically relates to the Chinese system of Wu Xing, or Five Elements. This system, which includes Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, is used to add another layer of meaning to the zodiac animals. Each year is associated not only with an animal but also with one of these five elements.

Obverse designs on 2025 Australian Silver Lunar Snakes feature the first appearance of His Majesty King Charles III in this series. Since the 1996 debut, Lunar Series coins have featured effigies of Queen Elizabeth II. This included the first five coins in the Lunar Series III program. Now, Charles III debuts in this program in left-profile relief in a design from Dan Thorne.
