Ancient Chinese texts like the “Book of Changes” (I Ching) reference the horse as a symbol of masculine energy and dynamic force. The hexagram “Qian” (Heaven) is often associated with a galloping horse, representing the creative power of heaven and the principle of constant motion and progress.
The obverse of the 2026 Australian Silver Lunar Horse carries the first Australian coin portrait of King Charles III. Shown in left-profile relief and without a crown, this image was created by Dan Thorne.
On the reverse, the 2026 1 Kilo Silver Lunar Horse Coin portrays a mare and her foal galloping across grassy terrain beneath the backdrop of tall mountains. This design was crafted by Ing Ing Jong, whose first work for The Perth Mint’s lunar series was released in 2013.
